These are the gals, Megan and Donna, the blog photographer rented a bike from. A couple of notes on the bikes and cycling in New Zealand. All of the brakes are switched. The left brake is for the rear, and the right for the front. On all bikes. It's not like they are all racing cross. Maybe it has something to do with the way the water drains the opposite way in the Southern Hemisphere.

The other thing is that New Zealand is hilly. Really....there is no flat ground ANYWHERE! I guess there's a patch on the South Island...but that's about it. Not huge climbs, but consistently steep rollers.
