More cross

The blog photographer has been tired... I think. Posts have been few and far between. But they will pick up soon.

Here's a link with a brief interview about my time shooting in Belgium....

Post race

I shot the race in Bredene on Thursday. Somewhat of a small race, with a few big names. They pay big start money to top guns. At the end of the race I dove into the tent by the podium to find out how those guys get cleaned up so fast. Turns out, at least in Belgium, they have a giant pot full of warm water for them to wash the mud off their face. Then change jerseys, and put on clean bibs/tights over what they are wearing. Clean socks, tennis shoes and they are ready to go. All the while getting interviewed by the tv folks. If I spoke Flemish I would be able to tell you what they said.

Zolder

Images from the Zolder World Cup. Man....these 'cross courses in Euro land are nothing like cross courses in the states. Really....it's like a death ride over here. I can't believe people can ride this.

At some point I'll put up images on my website from the Christmas Day race. In the meantime, here are a few I sent VeloNews.

More BMC Service Course

A couple of more images from the BMC Service Course. As you could imagine, they have some gear. Though it seems though only 30% of the gear was in the place. Most had been shipped to their base in Spain, while a portion was on the way to Australia for the Tour Down Under.

Walking into the front of the shop was the framed skinsuit, with the number still attached, that Cadel Evans wore when he took the lead in the TT the next to the last day of the 2011 Tour de France.

Tomorrow is the Diegem cross race. They moved all of the start times back a bit so more spectators could come after work. It's run through the city streets in the small town of Diegem, a northern suburb of Brussels. The newspaper said today there would be a minimum of 25,000 spectators. And since the Elite race doesn't start until 7:30, I imagine that most spectators will have had a few beers by then.

The Euro Cross Campers went to the BMC Service Course near Gent, Belgium today. It's where the BMC team keeps their stuff. Busses, team cars, bikes, wheels (lots and lots of wheels), team kits, water bottles, etc. One of the mechanics pointed out where Cadel Evans' bike was that he rode in the Tour de France last year. Dave went and grabbed it for a couple of photos.

Lion of Flanders

On Sunday there were two cross races that the Euro Cross Camp participated in. The blog photographer went to the World Cup race in Namur. It was unusual in that it's the first World Cup race ever to take part in the Walloone Region of Belgium. All of the others have taken place in the Flanders Region. The race also took place at the top of a hill on the grounds of a castle.

Dave went with a group of riders to a smaller race in Maldegem. You'd think that you would want to be at the bigger race....but not when you pull into the parking lot and the guy parked next to you is Johan Museeuw. His son was racing.

That seems to be the way things go in Belgium. The cycling world is small here.

More stories and photos soon...

Belgium - Day #1

Dave and I made it to Belgium. Here's a link to my blog for some words. We spent most of the day trying to stay awake to adjust to the time zone. Here's a shot of Dave in my room losing the battle at staying awake. The blog photographer also lost.

The blog photographer and Dave are leaving tomorrow morning for the heart of cyclocross country. I hope to post often. I think it's going to be a muddy season this year...should yield some nice images.

Navajo Reservation

Has the blog photographer ever told you about the time he went to the Navajo Reservation in November of 2008? He photographed Yazzi and Terrance jumping off of rock formations under a full moon. Thankfully nobody hurt themselves and we didn't get bitten by any rattlesnakes.
